The Nagahama-Makino-Chikubushima Island route circles around the northern part of Lake Biwa.

On the first day, you will see the origin of Nagahama City's development through the Rakuichi-rakuza (free markets and open guilds) system which originated with Toyotomi Hideyoshi; the Kurokabe Square which is a corner of the retro cityscape with architecture from the Edo, Meiji, and Taisho periods; and experience the glass blowing workshop.

On the next day, head to the Makino Town area where you could see the marvellous view of 500 Metasequoia trees lined together. The 2.4km-long avenue of trees changes its scenery depending on the season, and continues to fascinate visitors. In the afternoon, make a visit to Chikubushima Island; one of the eight scenic spots of Lake Biwa which has been said to be an island where gods live since ancient times.

Enjoy a 2 days 1 night trip and be rejuvenated by historic culture and tranquil nature.

This hotel with only 15 rooms is located on a private land of approximately 132,000m², near the Kaizu Osaki peninsula lined with cherry trees, which is one of the 100 best cherry blossom viewing spots in Japan. It has a fantastic view overlooking Lake Biwa with its clear waters, and Chikubushima Island which is a famous power spot where the gods reside. It is a perfect getaway location where you could avoid the Three Cs and rejuvenate by surrounding yourself in the nature and have a delectable dining.

The guest rooms in the main building has a simplistic modern design with a view of Lake Biwa. There are also four independent villas of different design concepts. A total of 15 groups of guests could stay at one time; with 6 groups in the main building (2 Luxury Suites + 4 Lakeview Theater Rooms) and 9 groups at the Villa Suite (3 Japanese-style rooms + 6 Western-style rooms).

There are four types of Villa Suites;

Villa Italia: The room is decorated in warm colors and are very popular among female guests.

Villa Asia: Rooms with an Asian resort feel, making you feel as if you're in Bali.

Villa Scandinavia: Enjoy a relaxing stay in a room with off-white tone.

Villa Japanese: Japanese modern themed rooms recommended for groups and families.

Luxury Suite is a very spacious suite. The living room decorated with luxurious white walls and marble makes it an elegant space. The view of the lake stretches out in front of you from the bedroom as well as from the bathroom.

The hotel restaurant is called Le Paysage, which means "landscape" in French. From the restaurant, you can see the greenery of the hotel garden, the deep blue water of Lake Biwa, and the panoramic view of the nature of Lake Oku-Biwa. Their dinner focuses on seasonal ingredients and deliciousness, calling it "Terroir Fermentation French," a name that reflects on the awareness of the local region, along with their deep love for the local area and hometown. The skillful chef uses fermentation which is also a part of Shiga prefecture's culinary culture, and incorporating fermentation techniques into the ingredients including the sauces. In the open kitchen, the dishes are prepared with perfect timing adjusting to the guests eating pace. Beverages are carefully selected by the hotel's resident sommelier and paired with the dishes.

  • The menu is subject to change without prior notice depending on the availability.

  • Dinner service is at 17:30 or 19:30. Seat reservation is confirmed based on the availability.

To make the most of your stay, there is a lounge space where you can enjoy wine, local sake, and soft drinks from check-in until the evening hours. There is also a library adjacent to the lounge where you can spend your free time by reading the books.

Private family bath (hot spring)

There are 2 private hot spring family baths. Bath tax of JPY150 will be charged on site when using it (children below 12 years old are exempt from this tax). Reservation is required and each session is limited to 45 minutes. The indoor bath is a hot spring (water added, temperature added, and circulation filtered). Some of the hot spring water is brought in from the natural hot spring Kita Omi no Yu.

Each room can accommodate up to two people where guests will be treated by dedicated therapists who will provide counseling and suggest treatments based on your physical condition.

Outdoor Facilities

There are four tennis courts (night tennis available). A private swimming pool is also available for use during the summer months only. You can also enjoy some private time on the lookout hill or at the shore of Lake Biwa during your stay.

Notes

 If the ferry to Chikubushima Island is cancelled due to bad weather such as strong wind or snowstorm, the tour will be dismissed at Imazu Port. In this case, only the one-way ferry fare between Imazu Port and Chikubushima Island and the one-way ferry fare between Chikubushima Island and Hikone Port will be refunded after the end of the itinerary. Please send us the ferry tickets which you received before your departure and we will proceed with the refund process. We ask you to cover the postage fee.

The refund amount is as follows;  

Adult: JPY3,130 per person  

Junior high school/high school/university students: JPY2,570 per person  

Elementary school students: JPY1,720 per person  

Please check the sailing status at the port on the day of departure as it is not usually confirmed until around 1 hour to 30 minutes before the ferry departure time.  

 

  • The departure time of JR Kosai line to Omi-Imazu station is 13:10 for Kyoto and 13:43 for Tsuruga (as of March 2021).

Access

  • By train

Take the Tokaido Shinkansen or Sanyo Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Maibara Station (approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes).

  • By car

Take the Tomei Expressway to Maibara IC.

  • The rates do not include the transportation fee prior to arrival at Maibara Station and beyond Hikone Station (beyond arrival at Imazu Port in the case of a cancelled Chikubujima flight).

  • Check-in time is at 15:00, and check-out time is at 12:00.

  • Dinner starts at 17:30 or 19:30, and breakfast starts at 07:30.

  • Beverages are not included in the meal. Payment should be made on site.

  • Your booking confirmation will be sent within 1-2 business days.

  • We will ask you to complete the payment after the booking has been confirmed.

  • You may be asked to present your residence card as proof of identification upon check-in.
