You can experience making Bin Temari which has been handed down since the end of the Edo period in Echigawa town of Koto area, and making an authentic omamori at Tarobogu Shrine.

You will also be visiting a sake brewery that has been in operating since the Edo period, learn about the history of Omi merchants, and enjoy the cuisine of Lake Province and Omi beef.

Day 2 Route

Day 3 Route

This is a 3 days 2 nights tour starting from Hikone city takes you to the charm and historical culture of the East Lake area of Shiga prefecture.

The highlight of this tour is the exprience in making Bin Temari, which is the process of putting a threaded ball into a bottle in Echigawa town. The origin of this technique is unclear, however they are very pretty. In addition, the tour will include a sake brewery visit and tasting at Fujii Honke, where the NHK TV series "Amakarashan" was filmed.

On the last day, you will go to Gokasho Kondo the home of the Omi merchants, and Tarobogu Shrine where the god of happiness and victory resides. In the Gokasho Kondo district, the Omi merchant's residence is open to the public, and you can learn all about the Omi merchant's main residence. At the Tarobogu Shrine, you can try your hand at making an omamori that will bring you happiness and victory.

Dining

Breakfast will be served at Omi Dining Kissho restaurant, where you can enjoy both Japanese and Western dishes in buffet style. You can enjoy a wide variety of dishes made of local ingredients such as Omi beef miso, red konnyaku, Ibuki milk, Ibuki Japanese radish, red round turnip, and ayu sweetfish with roe. Don't forget to try the shijimi clam udon noodles with the chef's special soup stock and the chef's special morning curry. The restaurant is spacious and bright with glass walls all around. We recommend to sit on the adjacent terrace on sunny days.

There are two unique restaurants in the hotel.

 

The Omi Dining Kissho restaurant offers gorgeous and delicate Japanese cuisine with savory Omi beef and other delicacies made from seasonal ingredients.

 

At Omi Beef Teppanyaki Houou, you can enjoy Omi beef on a lively teppan grill. Try it with the hotel's original wasabi sauce and garlic rice which will deepen the flavor.

Big Public Bath "Shiromi no Yu"

Surrender yourself to the spacious bathtub and stretch out your limbs to refresh yourself after a long day of travel. The large public bath has a view of the castle tower lit up in the evening. This silky bath refreshes the body and mind with the negative ion effects of a gentle artificial carbon dioxide spring.

  • The bath is not a hot spring.

  • Face towels and bath towels are available in the big public bath. Please wear the yukata and haori provided in your room to the bath.

  • Hikone Castle is lit up from 18:00 to 21:00.

Castle Viewing Terrace

This terrace is reserved for hotel and banquet guests and offers a direct view of the castle tower. Bonfires are lit in the evening and the middle moat is illuminated. It is also a great place to relax after a hot bath. Please enjoy the fantastic twilight view of the castle.

Library Lounge

The Library Lounge is a space where guests can relax and enjoy their private time. There is a bar counter with the view of Hikone Castle. The lounge can also be used as a waiting area for banquets and conferences.

Natural Spa Sarasa

Natural Spa Sarasa is an esthetic and relaxation salon located on the second floor. Based on the idea that the mind and body are the same, the salon is dedicated in providing a pampering all hand treatment which will release your fatigue and stress. The salon offers a wide variety of treatment menu for both men and women (not included in the tour plan, payment should be made on site).

  • Within walking distance from the hotel there is the Hikone Castle. The castle is one of only 12 Japanese castles with the original keep, and one of only five castles listed as a national treasure. It is said to be ruled by the Ii family for nearly 260 years. There's also Yume Kyobashi Castle Road which is a castle town inspired by the Edo period. In the suburbs, you will find Taga Taisha Shrine which nicknamed as Otaga-san, and RosaA & Berry Tawada where you can enjoy an English-style garden. If you arrive early, we suggest that you visit these places.

Access

By train

From Tokyo: Take the Tokaido Shinkansen Hikari to Maibara Station (approximately 2 hours 15 minutes), then take the JR Biwako Line Rapid/New Rapid to JR Hikone Station (approximately 5 minutes).

From Osaka: Take the JR Kyoto Line New Rapid/JR Biwako Line to JR Hikone Station (approximately 1 hour 20 minutes). From JR Hikone Station, take the shuttle bus (reservation required) or walk for 8 minutes.

By shuttle bus (reservation required 09:00-21:00)

A shuttle bus will be available from the west exit of JR Hikone Station. Please call the hotel when you arrive at JR Hikone Station.

 

By car

Take the Meishin Expressway to Hikone IC.
